5th year students learn and play at the Open Bench Project

5th year students are the cutting edge.

They have all the new skills from school but since graduation they have lost access to many of the great resources they used while there. They have nowhere to work and no capital to start their own shop.

At OBP we support the 5th year student by providing a low cost option for them to meet other makers, continue to hone their skills and develop products and systems they can sell. We help them think about how they will make a living doing just what they have already spent many dollars on and much time learning. We support them so they can use their skills instead of losing them, or worse, leave the state looking for work, taking their newly learned skills with them.

Dylan Estabrooks, A member of the Open Bench Project

“Since graduating from college, I have been pursuing a passion in woodworking; the evolving tool inventory is a great resource for anyone lacking the capitol to operate his or her own shop.”
-Dylan Estabrooks
