One of the first things we are doing to help get the maker community together here in Portland is to organize some Skills classes at various people’s shops. We have recently organized a youth soldering / electronic workshop as well as a few welding workshops. If you are interested in learning a new skill through the Open Bench Project distributed workshop series, please check our calendar and let us know if there is something you want to learn about which is not on the calendar. Prices for events vary, so just send us a note if you see something you are interested in. We will be adding more things as we think of them. If you are interested in teaching how to do something let us know, if we find there is enough interest in a subject, we will organize a workshop around that subject.
It is challenging for those who agree to host these workshops to interrupt the work at their production shops and set up to host/teach, so we all thank them for going out of their way to help us all learn. We will continue to work hard to build out the Open Bench Project makerspace here in Portland. Then we will be able to streamline this process and begin being able to offer these events in our home base, where we can all share, learn and create.
So we hope to see you soon.
